Beads inspired by the new Ronna Sarvas Weltman polymer clay book! I love trees and pods in general, so I came up with my version of Mimosa pods, not a literal translation, but a blending of the flower's colors and the pod shape. The steel wire beads on the neckwire remind me of tumbleweeds!
Here in the high desert we have Mimosa and Desert Willow trees, multitudes of prickly pear flowering cacti, Bird of Paradise bushes, all blooming a healthy dose of hot colors reflecting the blazing heat of the Great Basin terrain. Nature provides us with infinite inspiration if we take the time to observe, from the ruby-orange hue of fire ants, to the fiery-spotted road runners chasing orange-striped sagebrush lizards across the Red Rock Canyon. There is a vast rainbow of colors here in the desert! What is your inspiration? Do tell!
Hope you all had a red-hot firecracker Fourth of July!

I like your pods a lot, Sharon! I have been seeing so many interesting pieces of jewelry which were inspired by Ronna Sarvas Weltman's book, that I finally broke down and ordered a copy. Hope it arrives soon!
It must be like another world living in the desert. Fire ants and road runners would be fun to see! I hope you don't have too many scary things like tarantulas and scorpions and rattle snakes :-(
Thanks Doreen! And yes, it's like living on the other side of the moon! My family moved here in the month of June when I was 10 years old, from California. My mother and I sat on the bed and cried while the dry, hot wind whipped through the venetian blinds--no air conditioning! Not long after, my mother was watering the front lawn in the evening and a scorpion ran across her feet!
I know you will love Ronna's book, it's chock full of beautiful projects. I love her abstract way of viewing beauty, it's so refreshing!
Sharon, I'm a transplant to a a semi-arid climate. I'm learning to love the subtle beauty of 'dry'. Your mimosa pods are lovely. The steel wire beads are a great compliment.
I love your beads, they're so pretty. I've yet to try polymer clay. I have to get around to that soon.
Very pretty Sharon.....love the contrast of color between the beads and the wire! The pods are luscious!
Very cool pods, Sharon. You're right, nature is full of inspiration - we just need to look around us! The colour palette nature surrounds you with is very different from here. Due to the fact that we are having an overabundance of rain, everything is just shades of green.
Thank you visited my blog. Your work is excellent and I will monitor your work.
Regards
Phoenix

Love the beads! I didn't know you live by Red Rock Canyon...I just got back from there, and I absolutely LOVED it! It's a breathtaking and inspirational place. Of course, the weather was unusually cool, and I didn't come across anything too scary like scorpions or tarantulas!

Thanks so much everyone for your kind comments!
Lisa--I live about a 20 to 30 minute drive from Red Rock and have hiked there many times. There is a very nice park just before RR called Canyon Springs-same red rock formations and a lovely creek running through where you can relax and have a picnic. I noticed you did get back from Vegas, if I knew sooner we maybe could have met!
We didn't get to check out Canyon Springs, but we went to the Valley of Fire State Park which was really cool. We loved the petroglyphs. My fiance goes to Vegas at least once a year (sometimes more) to play in poker tournaments, so I'll let you know next time we go!

Sharon, this is so cool...I think your polymer clay beads are great. I'd love to see how the whole piece turned out!
